This blog is titled "alhamdo lella" a rough English transliteration of the response to "how are you?" in the Arabic language. It means "thank God." In Arabic, the appropriate response to inquiries of well-being is to credit God with one's health and happiness.
I have set up this blog as a way that my family and friends can keep tabs on me while I am studying abroad in Amman, Jordan during the Fall 2007 semester. I will keep you updated on how I doing and what I am thinking about; essentially alhamdo lella bekhaeer, thank God I'm well.
So far, my study abroad experience has been wonderful here in Amman. Although I love the food, my apartment and my new friends, I have had to adjust to many different aspects of life (one of which includes a limited access to internet). What follows are the first few entries of my nearly two weeks in the middle east. Thanks for checking this out!
